Mount Feathertop via The Razorback is a 22.4 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Harrietville, Victoria, Australia that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, camping, and backpacking.
This is a great hike that will take roughly 7-8 hours to summit Victoria's second highest mountain at 1,922m. It gains a great deal of altitude but is mostly moderate until the last bit which is steep and rocky. Begin at the carpark of Diamantina Hut, descend into the Big Dipper, pass through open snow grass, low shrubs and snow gum woodlands before reaching the rocky bluffs. Every hundred or so metres of elevation gain the vegetation changes toward the end summit well above the tree line with great views over the Bogong High Plains. Situated within the Alpine National Park, this region has a long cultural history as a place for large gatherings in warmer seasons by Indigenous Australians, with a rich spiritual association. If you go in winter/spring there may still be snow on the ground. It is mostly exposed with no shade so bring a hat and sunscreen!
